Poghisio Elected Senate Majority Leader to Replace Murkomen

On May 11, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta chaired a Jubilee coalition Parliamentary group meeting at State House, Nairobi, where 20 Senators from the Jubilee Party and the Kenya African National Union (KANU) gathered.

During the meeting, West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio was elected as the new Senate Majority leader, marking the end of Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen's reign.

According to sources, the changes were made to strengthen the Coalition's Senate Leadership.

Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata has taken over as the new Majority Chief Whip, replacing Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika.

Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo Adan will retain the Senate Deputy Majority leader seat, while Nominated Senator Farhiya Ali Haji takes over as the Deputy Majority Chief Whip from Kang'ata.

President Uhuru Kenyatta congratulated the new Jubilee Coalition Senate leaders and assured them of his support, stating that he looks forward to working closely with the new Senate Leadership in delivering services to Kenyans.
