Published on May 11, 2020, China's capital city, Beijing, has taken another step in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic by introducing temperature-tracking bracelets for students.
The high-tech devices, which resemble fitness trackers, are designed to alert teachers and parents if a student's temperature exceeds 37.2 degrees Celsius.
According to the Beijing Daily, the bracelets provide real-time temperature data that can be monitored by schools and parents via an app.
"The bracelet is similar to a normal fitness tracker... We recommend that students wear them 24 hours a day," an unnamed teacher told the Beijing Daily.
The trial, which began on Monday, May 11, 2020, is being conducted in five Beijing districts for middle school students who have returned to class after a three-month closure.
China has implemented various measures to contain the spread of the virus, including thermal cameras in public areas and a mobile app that displays green, yellow, and red ratings based on a person's travel history.
As the country begins to transition back to normal life, schools across China have introduced daily temperature monitoring, compulsory mask-wearing, and social distancing policies to prevent the spread of the virus.
