Published on May 11, 2020, Deputy President Dr. William Ruto has called on Kenyans to support those affected by floods and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through his Twitter handle, Dr. Ruto expressed concern over the numerous challenges facing the country, including the COVID-19 pandemic, destructive floods, and a locust invasion.

“Good people, we are in the middle of corona pandemic, destructive floods & ravaging locust invasion. Many who have lost work, income & livelihood are desperate and hungry. Let's us reach out with food and all kind of support individually where we are able and collectively as GoK.” — William Samoei Ruto, PhD (@WilliamsRuto) May 11, 2020

Dr. Ruto emphasized that the affected people require assistance of any kind from both citizens and the government, as many have lost their jobs and are struggling to support their families.

His call comes as floods in various parts of the country continue to cause destruction, resulting in over 190 lives lost and thousands of families displaced from their homes.

Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa recently toured the Western Kenya region, which has been severely affected by the floods, and reported that more than 11,000 people in Bungoma County require support after their homes and property were destroyed.
