Published on May 11, 2020, an investigation into the downing of a Kenyan plane in Somalia revealed that Ethiopian troops had admitted to the incident.
According to Brigadier General Alemu Ayene, the Sector Three Commander, the Ethiopian forces had suspected that the plane was on a suicide mission after it flew low over their position.
However, it has been alleged that the Ethiopian forces were not aware of the flight's scheduled route, which was authorized by the Somalia Civil Aviation Authority.
Investigations by Somalia authorities revealed that the plane was shot down very close to the ground, resulting in the death of three out of six crew members.
The three survivors were reportedly shot at close range by the Ethiopians to ensure that only one narrative would be told.
The African Express flight 711, registration 5Y AXO, was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade while landing in Bardaale on May 4, 2020.
The incident resulted in the death of Captain Hassan Bulhan, the son of Captain Musa Hassan Burhan, the owner of African Express.
