On May 8, 2020, Vihiga County received a significant boost in its fight against Covid-19 with a donation of medical equipment worth Sh.12.3 million from Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Church.
The Nairobi Region President of the Church, Khulumbani Nzetse, led the team to Vihiga government headquarters to hand over the medical consignment, which included N95 face masks, sanitizers, Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs), oxygen cylinders, detergents, beds, and drip stands.
Addressing the press, Nzetse stated that the donation was in line with the Church's doctrine of offering practical solutions to problems affecting human life, especially during times of crisis such as the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Thus, as a Christian mission, we are grateful to partner with Vihiga County in the anti-Covid-19 efforts to ensure our people are not infected,” Nzetse said, urging the county government to ensure proper utilization of the medical equipment.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Vihiga County Covid-19 Emergency Response Committee (VICEREC) were Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo and County Commissioner Ochilo Oyugi.
Dr. Ottichilo thanked the Church and promised to ensure the medical equipment was properly used, appealing to other donors and individual well-wishers to emulate the kind gesture.
“We would be grateful to have more well-wishers joining us in this war,” Dr. Ottichilo said, adding that food relief was another urgent need for residents of the county.
