On May 11, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta and Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka engaged in secret talks regarding a potential merger between Jubilee and Wiper.
The discussions, which have been ongoing, aim to bolster the government's presence in the Senate and National Assembly.
As part of the proposed agreement, KANU members have agreed to support government business in both houses, with West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisho set to be appointed Senate Majority leader.
President Uhuru Kenyatta's desire for more members in both houses is driven by his need to counter the aggressive team led by Deputy President William Ruto's allies.
Uhuru's recent falling out with opposition leader Raila Odinga over the formation of a Coalition Government has further underscored the importance of securing a merger with Wiper.
However, Kalonzo has reportedly made unusual demands before agreeing to the merger, including being appointed a Cabinet Secretary.
A Wiper official confirmed that the party has given Kalonzo the green light to engage with other parties over a coalition, stating, 'It was a video conferencing in line with the new reality. We reiterated what has been there that the party leader is at liberty to engage like like-minded partners to forge alliances going forward.'
