On May 11, 2020, Carrefour, a leading retailer in Kenya, partnered with the Kenya Red Cross to launch a month-long donation campaign aimed at supporting communities affected by COVID-19.
The campaign, which will run until the end of the month, will see Carrefour customers donate food hampers, which will be distributed to needy families neighboring Carrefour stores through the Kenya Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund.
For every 10 food hampers donated by customers, Carrefour will contribute an additional hamper, demonstrating the company's commitment to giving back to the community.
According to Franck Moreau, Country Manager of Carrefour Kenya at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, 'During this time of Covid-19, it is important to give back to those in need. Being there for the community is an integral part of our business at Majid Al Futtaim and assist in curbing the effects of this pandemic.'
The partnership between Carrefour and the Kenya Red Cross is a positive step towards supporting those in need during this challenging time. The Kenya Red Cross has been at the forefront of collecting and distributing food essentials, and with Carrefour's reach to a large customer base, this partnership will be a catalyst to rally the nation together to support those in need.
Dr. Asha Mohammed, Secretary-General, Kenya Red Cross Society, emphasized the importance of supporting the most vulnerable families, stating, 'The measures instituted as part of the COVID-19 response have put a lot of households in dire strain economically, and unless the most vulnerable families are supported, we cannot defeat this pandemic.'
