On May 8, 2020, the Ministry of Health imposed a cessation of movement in Eastleigh and Old Town in Mombasa to curb the spread of Covid-19.
Garissa Governor Ali Korane has expressed concern over reports that people were being smuggled from Eastleigh in Nairobi to Garissa, despite the restrictions.
“The cessation of movement for Eastleigh is meant for the good of the people of Eastleigh and the country at large,” Korane said.
He urged residents of Eastleigh not to move to other areas to avoid transmitting the disease to their loved ones in Garissa and making an already bad situation even worse.
The Governor also asked livestock traders who have been crossing into the neighbouring Somalia to stop the trade forthwith, citing the high number of Covid-19 cases in the country.
On Sunday, Korane witnessed the distribution of Ramadan food rations to 300 vulnerable families in Garissa, as part of the County Government's efforts to support those affected by the pandemic.
