On Monday morning, Carrefour Kenya Country Manager Franck Moreau and Kenya Red Cross Deputy Secretary General Annette Msabeni launched a month-long donation campaign at Carrefour Two Rivers branch. The campaign aims to assist communities in need with donations of essential food items.
The donation drive, which will run until the end of the month, will target needy families living near Carrefour stores. The distribution of the donations will be done through the Kenya Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund.
Carrefour customers are encouraged to join this worthy cause by donating food hampers and dropping them in the donation boxes located in each of the seven Carrefour stores in Kenya. For every 10 donated by its customers, Carrefour will also contribute a food hamper.
“During this time of COVID-19, it is essential to give back to those in need. Being there for the community is an integral part of our business at Majid Al Futtaim and assist in curbing the effects of this pandemic,” said Franck Moreau, Country Manager of Carrefour Kenya at Majid Al Futtaim Retail.
The Kenya Red Cross has been at the forefront of collecting and distributing food essentials during this time. With Carrefour’s reach to a large customer base, this partnership will be a positive catalyst to rally the nation together to support those in need.
“The measures instituted as part of the COVID-19 response have put a lot of households in dire strain economically. Unless the most vulnerable families are supported, we cannot defeat this pandemic,” said Dr Asha Mohammed, Secretary General, Kenya Red Cross Society.
