As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to affect communities worldwide, Carrefour, a leading retailer in Kenya, has taken a commendable step to support vulnerable populations. In partnership with the Kenya Red Cross, Carrefour has launched a month-long donation campaign to provide essential food items to those in need.
According to Franck Moreau, Country Manager of Carrefour Kenya at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, the initiative aims to give back to the community during this challenging time. 'During this time of Covid-19, it is important to give back to those in need. Being there for the community is an integral part of our business at Majid Al Futtaim and assist in curbing the effects of this pandemic,' he said.
The donation campaign, which kicked off on an unspecified date, will see Carrefour customers donate food hampers, which will be collected and distributed through the Kenya Covid-19 Emergency Response Fund. For every 10 donated food hampers, Carrefour will contribute one of its own.
Dr. Asha Mohammed, Secretary-General, Kenya Red Cross Society, emphasized the importance of supporting the most vulnerable families during this pandemic. 'The measures instituted as part of the COVID-19 response have put a lot of households in dire strain economically, and unless the most vulnerable families are supported, we cannot defeat this pandemic,' she said.
Carrefour's partnership with the Kenya Red Cross is a positive catalyst to rally the nation together to support those in need. The initiative is a testament to the company's commitment to giving back to the community and making a positive impact during these challenging times.
