On May 9, 2020, Silvia Romano, an Italian aid worker, was finally reunited with her family in Rome after being held captive for 18 months in Kenya.

Gunmen had seized Romano on September 4, 2019, while she was working in the East African country.

According to reports, Romano was freed a day before her return to Italy, bringing an end to a long and difficult ordeal for her and her loved ones.
