On Friday, six mourners from Malindi in Kilifi County attended a funeral in Kauwi Sub-Location, Kitui West Sub-County, despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
According to Kauwi location Chief Thomas Munyao, the six mourners had a permit to attend the funeral, but have since been placed in quarantine at Kitui's Covid-19 isolation centre at Kauwi Level 4 Hospital for 14 days.
Chief Munyao confirmed that the six will undergo testing for Coronavirus before being allowed to interact with the public.
“We conducted the burial ceremony while observing the Ministry of Health set guidelines. We have decided to quarantine the six for prevention purposes and testing,” said Chief Munyao on Sunday.
Kitui County residents are being urged to report anyone from another county who has come to the area before they interact with the public, for their own safety.
Just last week, a nurse from Mwingi Level 4 hospital tested positive for Covid-19 after traveling from Mombasa, where he visited his girlfriend who works in a quarantine facility.
