On May 10, 2020, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i took to Twitter to instruct the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai and Nairobi Regional Police Commander Philip Ndolo to provide him with a report on the alleged incident by 3 pm that same day.

The incident in question involved a truck driver who was allegedly harassed by police officers at a checkpoint in Riruta. Despite being intimidated with a whip, the driver stood his ground and produced documents authorizing him to transport goods past curfew hours.

According to the viral clip, the driver complained to the police officers about the damage to his truck and insisted that the female officer who was involved in the incident accompany him to the police station to lodge a complaint.

However, the police officers defended their colleague, stating that the female officer was busy and could not accompany the driver to the station. The driver continued to shout at the officers, who eventually left him at the scene.

Dr. Matiang'i's tweet, which has been widely shared, reads: “This alleged incident has been brought to my attention. Consequently, I have instructed the @IG_NPS Hillary Mutyambai, and the Nairobi Regional Police Commander, Philip Ndolo, to furnish me with a report by 1500hrs today (10th May). @NPSOfficial_KE @PoliceKE”
