On May 10, 2020, the Premier League was facing a new challenge as a third Brighton player tested positive for the coronavirus.
The player, who has not been named, was tested on Saturday and will self-isolate for 14 days while recovering from the virus.
This development comes as the Premier League is set to restart on June 1, with the remaining 92 fixtures to be played by August.
Brighton's chief executive, Paul Barber, expressed concerns about the safety of the players, saying, "Unfortunately we have had a third player test positive just yesterday."
Barber also criticized the plan to play the remaining fixtures behind closed doors at neutral venues, insisting that the campaign should still be played on a home-and-away basis.
"There are concerns and I think it is normal for all clubs to have those concerns," Barber said.
"We want to make sure we do all that we can so the protocols that are put into place are safe and secure and mitigate the risk."
Meanwhile, Dynamo Dresden, a Bundesliga 2 side, has put their entire squad and coaching staff into two-week isolation after two players tested positive for coronavirus.
The Premier League is set to hold a meeting on Monday to debate the plan to complete the season behind closed doors and vote on whether player contracts will be extended until the end of the rescheduled campaign.
