As I reflect on the lessons I learned in 2020, one stands out: the value of altruism in times of need. It was a lesson I learned firsthand when I required a blood transfusion in December 2019.
Thanks to the generosity of my colleagues, friends, and family, I was able to receive 1.4 litres of packed red blood cells, which saved my life. The experience was a humbling reminder of the importance of kindness and selflessness in our communities.
On December 2019, I had a rare opportunity to have my loved ones pool resources for me to receive the life-saving blood transfusion. In droves, they came to the blood donation unit, demonstrating the power of altruism in addressing the blood bank crisis.
