Kenya Airways flight KQ 883, carrying over 160 Kenyans stranded in China, touched down at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on May 10, 2020, at 3 am.
The flight departed from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport on May 9, 2020, at 8:27 pm, marking the end of a long journey for the stranded Kenyans.
Kenyan Ambassador to China, Sarah Serem, was present at the Chinese airport to bid farewell to the passengers.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the flight had at least 160 Kenyans on board.
Kenya's government had expressed concerns about the costs of repatriating citizens stranded abroad, but the pressure to bring them home grew after reports emerged of Africans being blamed for the spread of COVID-19 in China.
Kenya Airways celebrated the successful repatriation of its citizens, tweeting, 'It's always a pleasure to be of service to our country and our fellow Kenyans. Karibuni Nyumbani.'
