On May 9, 2020, a long line of people stretched for over a kilometer outside an ice rink in Geneva, Switzerland, where volunteers were handing out food parcels to those in need.

According to charity Caritas, 660,000 people in Switzerland were poor in 2018, with single parents and those with low education being particularly affected.

Geneva Solidarity Caravan's Silvana Matromatteo said, 'It is different to see this with your own eyes.' Many recipients were undocumented immigrants, while others had attained legal status or were seeking asylum.

Doctors Without Borders' Patrick Wieland noted that a survey showed just over half the food recipients interviewed were undocumented.
