On May 10, 2020, the Kenyan government heightened surveillance at the Namanga border point to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya toured the one-stop border point and warned those using illegal entry points, saying, "We are pleading with people to be responsible and ensure we are not putting others at risk."
Kenyan and Tanzanian nationals found illegally crossing the border will be quarantined for 14 days.
Natembeya emphasized the importance of testing truck drivers for Covid-19 before embarking on their journey, stating that it was inevitable.
Although satisfied with the measures in place, Natembeya announced that all truck drivers would have to wait at the border town for a medical checkup.
