Ex-Prison Boss, 18 Others Arrested for Flouting Curfew Regulations

On May 9, 2020, a joint team of officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and regular police in Mutomo Sub-County, Kitui County, arrested 19 individuals, including a former senior Kenya Prison officer, for violating curfew orders.

The officers were on patrol when they received a tip-off from area residents about the group, who were locked up inside The Meeting Point Bar and Mpya Bar drinking.

According to police, the group was arrested for disobeying curfew orders, which were in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Joint police officers from Mutomo police station and DCI who were on mobile patrol within the area of jurisdiction received intelligence report that they were members of the public who were disobeying curfew orders,” read a police statement.

The arrested individuals include Daniel Mutua, a former senior prison officer, Vincent Mboya, Christopher Kasua Munyasia, Michael Kanyeri, Francis Kanyeri, Alfonse Muginda, Solomon Mwasia, Jacob Nguu, Caroline Mwende, Joseph Kithuka, and Michael Kitjonga among others.
