On Saturday, May 9, 2020, golf caddies at Royal Nairobi and Nyanza Golf Clubs received a much-needed cash boost from Sunset Golfing Society (SGS). The society presented cheques of Sh100,000 each to the clubs' caddies, totaling Sh200,000.
SGS captain Sylvester Odhiambo handed over the cheques, accompanied by chairman Abel Munda and Royal Nairobi Chairman Charles Omondi. Odhiambo emphasized the importance of supporting the caddies, who are an integral part of the golfing fraternity.
"We have had a long partnership with Royal and Nyanza, particularly through our Sunset Golfing Society golf series and CSR wing," Odhiambo said. "We felt an obligation to support the caddies in these clubs to help them survive the pandemic."
SGS has also been supporting needy students across the country, with nine students receiving Sh500,000 annually. The society's CSR wing has been active for several years, and they plan to continue supporting students and other causes.
With golf events suspended due to the pandemic, SGS is looking forward to resuming their Sunset Golf series in the near future. If possible, they will stage their events at Nyali, Royal, and Nyanza golf clubs; otherwise, they may hold the Nyanza event in December.
