On April 11, Pastor John Apewajoye, a 42-year-old gospel singer, died at Kenyatta National Hospital after suffering 60 percent burns in a fire incident at his home in Athi River on March 30.

According to Ruth Matete, Apewajoye's wife, the Nigerian High Commission in Nairobi has allegedly delayed the burial of her husband, citing embassy obstruction.

Matete's lawyer, Robert Odanga, stated that despite conducting an autopsy with four independent pathologists present, the embassy has refused to release Apewajoye's body for burial.

Speaking on Spice FM, Odanga lamented that the mission was holding onto the remains despite the late pastor's family in Nigeria permitting Ruth to bury him in Kenya.

“Even after conducting the autopsy with four independent pathologists present, the embassy has curtailed our effort to remove John’s body for burial,” Odanga said.

Matete's family has been forced to seek financial donations from well-wishers to meet Apewajoye’s rising mortuary fees.
