Published on May 9, 2020, the Kenyan government has taken steps to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in Isiolo County by deploying two specialized nurses to work in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and High Dependency Unit (HDU) wards at Isiolo County Referral Hospital.

Prof Philip Kaloki, Chairman of the Kenya Medical Training College, announced that all professional staff at KMTC would be temporarily deployed at the hospital to assist in fighting COVID-19. He also stated that two vehicles, a bus and a double cabin, would be attached to the hospital to aid in logistics.

Prof Kaloki emphasized that the Isiolo County Government was adequately prepared for specialized medical care, including COVID-19 cases, as the hospital has modern standard facilities for the same.

According to Ibrahim Alio, the Isiolo chief officer for health, only one COVID-19 positive case has been confirmed in the county, and contact tracing is already underway. Thirteen people have been placed under quarantine at Garbatula Sub-County hospital.

Alio assured the public that there was no cause for panic, as medical professionals in Garbatula are working hard to enhance contact tracing and adhere to quarantine regulations.
