As the COVID-19 pandemic took its toll on Nairobi, spirits were low in many households. In a bid to lift the mood, I decided to find the perfect romance movie and pair it with some delicious food. While browsing online, I stumbled upon The Bastard Baker, a bakery with a bold name and an even bolder selection of pastries.
Among the drool-worthy photos of melted, gooey, and glazed-to-a-shine pastries, I found a message that caught my attention: 'In this day of gluten-free, vegan, paleo, primal, Atkins blah blah blah, isn't it refreshing to have another option? We are that option. We are BASTARD. Come join us.'
With that, I decided to face-dive into an assorted box of their pastries, which included raised and glazed vanilla donuts, mini monsta cookies, PAB cookies, salted caramel brownies, and gooey and milky way brownies. The package was delivered on time, and unboxing those pastries brought immense joy to my household.
Each pastry was a delight to the taste buds, with the ultra-soft brioche donuts, mind-bending salted caramel brownies, and the perfect balance of crunch and chewiness in the PAB cookie. The mini monsta cookie lived up to its name, with a crunchy exterior and a puffed body.
For those with a serious sweet tooth, The Bastard Baker is definitely worth checking out. Their pastries are perfect for a family bonding session, and their online ordering system makes it easy to get your hands on their delicious treats. You can order from them online or visit one of their stockists, including Zucchini, Spring Valley Coffee, The Wine Shop, and The German School Nairobi.
