Kenya is currently experiencing a nationwide power outage due to a system disturbance that occurred on May 9, 2020, at 5:49 am.
According to Kenya Power, the outage was caused by a technical fault in a section of the main high voltage transmission power line that evacuates power to Nairobi from Olkaria power generation sites in Naivasha.
The fault occurred near Kiambu town, where an electricity conductor came off the support insulators and clashed on the tower, said network management general manager Eng Charles Mwaura.
Power has been restored in some areas across the country, but the cause of the outage is still being investigated.
Kenya Power is set to issue an update on restoration progress and the cause of the outage later on.
Meanwhile, Uganda is also experiencing a blackout due to emergency load shedding from Saturday to Monday, 9 am-5 pm in Nalubale, Kiira, Bujagali, and Isimba, said Umeme, Uganda's main power distribution company.
