Kenya was plunged into darkness on Saturday morning after a massive power outage affected most parts of the country.
According to Kenya Power, the blackout was caused by a system disturbance on the transmission network, which resulted in a loss of power supply on the national grid.
At 5:49 am, the power distributor experienced a system disturbance that led to the outage, which affected various areas including Daraja Mbili Secondary School, Ouru Stores, and the Kenya Power Depot.
Kenya Power apologized for the inconvenience and assured the public that their engineers were working hard to restore normal power supply.
However, many Kenyans took to social media to express their frustration and disappointment at the power outage, with some accusing Kenya Power of taking them for a ride.
"We cannot work in the office due to Covid-19, we can also not work from home due to Kenya Power, this is sad. We are on our own," said Stephen Ogango.
Others questioned why they were still experiencing power outages despite having purchased tokens.
Kenya Power had earlier warned that some areas, including Kisii county, might experience blackouts due to the system disturbance.
