Following a directive from the Ministry of Health, Kenyatta National Hospital suspended some services like clinics and elective surgeries due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, with the country's confirmed cases of Covid-19 standing at 621, services at the country's largest referral hospital are set to resume fully on Monday, May 11, 2020.
According to a notice dated May 5, 2020, from KNH Deputy Director Surgical Services Kennedy Ondede, services will resume on May 11, 2020. The notice, addressed to heads of departments, directed them to provide duty rotas for coverage in the wards, clinics, and theatres by close of business on Thursday, May 7, 2020.
Dr. Ondede assured that KNH has put in place protective measures for clients and healthcare workers. He also requested individual clinics to liaise with health information for scheduling of appointments.
Usual traffic at the facility had reduced due to a travel ban in and out of Nairobi. The resumption of services is expected to ease the reduced traffic and restore normal operations at the hospital.
