On May 6, 2020, a heated exchange occurred between Market Milimani Ward Representative Seth Kanga and Kevine Omollo, a journalist based in Kisumu, during a press conference at Maseno University City Campus.
Omollo had posed a question to Governor Anyang' Nyong'o regarding the delay in the disbursement of Sh200 million pledged by the county government to residents affected by the pandemic.
County Criminal Investigations Officer Kipkorir Towett confirmed that his office has taken up the matter, and an investigation is underway.
On April 9, Governor Anyang' Nyong'o launched a Covid-19 funds drive targeting to raise Sh800 million, with the county government pledging Sh200 million.
However, on April 25, the governor announced that the executive had drafted a Bill and presented it to the assembly, which would allow for the appropriation of the money.
But in a surprising twist, Assembly Speaker Elisha Oraro denied that the Bill had been presented before the assembly, contradicting the governor's earlier statement.
