On May 7, 2020, a plane crash in Somalia claimed the lives of six people, including two Kenyan pilots, Mabrouk Sherman and Omar Jamal Chirg.
The plane, carrying relief and medical supplies, crashed and burst into flames under unclear circumstances. Kenyan and Somali authorities are jointly investigating the matter.
The bodies of the two pilots were transported to Mombasa on a private jet, African Express, which landed at Moi International Airport on Thursday evening.
According to Airport Police Boss Adamson Furaha, the flight arrived at 6:30 pm, and the families of the deceased pilots picked up the bodies for a burial ceremony at Kikowani and Aldina Visram cemeteries.
"The flight, African Express airline ferrying the bodies of the two pilots arrived at around 6:30 pm, the families picked the bodies and proceeded for the burial ceremony," said Furaha.
The pilots were from different parts of Kenya: Mabruk from Ganjoni in Mombasa and Jamal's parents from Kikambala in Kilifi County.
