On February 22, Tyson Fury delivered a commanding performance against Deontay Wilder, knocking him down twice before securing a seventh-round stoppage. This victory earned Fury one of the four major world belts, and his coach, Andy Lee, is confident that he would repeat this performance against Anthony Joshua.
According to Lee, Joshua is still an improving fighter, but he lacks the mental strength and experience that Fury possesses. Lee told Sky Sports, 'I think (Joshua) is still an improving fighter. A little bit of inexperience and mentally he's not as strong as Tyson.'
Lee believes that Fury would emerge victorious in a fight against Joshua, predicting an eight-round win. He also thinks that Joshua's inexperience and mental weakness would make it difficult for him to overcome Fury's commanding style of fighting.
Lee's comments come as the boxing world is still reeling from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, which has led to the suspension of major boxing shows. This has created uncertainty around the future of Fury's contractually-obliged fight against Wilder and Joshua's scheduled bout against Kubrat Pulev.
However, Lee is adamant that Fury would emerge victorious in a fight against Joshua, saying, 'I think Tyson would beat him in eight rounds. I like Anthony Joshua, I think he's a great fighter, a great champion. I still think it's a great fight and a great match-up and it's the only real match-up in the heavyweight division left for both guys, but I think Tyson wins in a similar fashion to what he did to Wilder.'
