Published on May 8, 2020, Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo has expressed his hope that his loan deal at Manchester United will be extended until the end of the Premier League season.

Having joined the club from Shanghai Shenhua in January, Ighalo's contract is set to expire on May 31. However, with the season currently on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 30-year-old is eager to see out the remainder of the campaign.

"I would like to finish the season if it's possible," Ighalo told BBC Sport.

Manchester United are reportedly keen to extend Ighalo's contract, despite their attacking worries easing during the lockdown. The former Watford player has scored four times in eight games for the Red Devils, who are currently fifth in the table with nine games remaining.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been working with his players to prepare for a possible return to action, using GPS trackers as part of their training regime.

"It's not to keep track of them or spy on them but it's been so long now, this phase and at different stages we've added things and I think the GPS has inspired and motivated a few of them just to go that little bit extra," Solskjaer said.
