Acquittal of Police Imposter Joshua Waiganjo Sparks Relief

On May 8, 2020, Joshua Waiganjo and former Rift Valley Provincial police boss John M'mbijiwe were acquitted of charges related to impersonating a police officer.

The ruling was delivered by principal magistrate Joe Omido via video conferencing from Kwale courts.

Waiganjo and M'mbijiwe were accused of posing as senior police officers, with Waiganjo allegedly impersonating an assistant commissioner of police on September 28, 2012.

They were also charged with being in possession of government stores and wearing a police uniform with the rank of an assistant commissioner of police in June 2012.

Waiganjo was accused of roaming Njoro town and police station for about 10 years, acting as his own
