On May 8, 2020, Kenya's total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases rose to 621, with the announcement of 14 more positive test results.

Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman revealed that all the new patients were Kenyans, with 10 from Nairobi.

He also stated that Mombasa accounted for three of the cases, and Machakos County, southeast of Nairobi, recorded its first case, bringing the total number of affected counties to 19.

The new cases were recorded after testing 922 samples in the last 24 hours.

Dr. Aman announced that five more patients had been discharged after testing negative, raising Kenya's total number of recoveries to 202.

He appealed for understanding and warm receptions for recovered patients, who faced complaints of stigma.

Of the new cases, 13 were picked up by surveillance teams, while one was from a quarantine facility.

Locations of the new cases included Kasarani estate in Nairobi, with four cases, and Mombasa's case in Likoni.

The age range for the new patients was 11 months to 49, with nine males and five females.

The ministry also announced that 237 Kenyans returned from India on Thursday and were booked into hotels at the government's expense.

More arrivals from other countries, including China, were expected to follow.

However, Kenyans who sought repatriation from China would not receive waivers for their flight tickets.

The 'repatriation' flight from India departed from Mumbai at 6:30 pm local time, with passengers expected to undergo a 14-day quarantine before returning home.
