Kenya has recorded 14 new Covid-19 cases out of 922 samples tested in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 621 as of May 8, 2020.
According to Health CAS Dr Aman Rashid, all the new patients are Kenyans, and the total samples tested in the country now stand at 29,430.
Of the new cases, 10 are in Nairobi, 3 in Mombasa, and 1 in Machakos counties. The first Covid-19 patient in Machakos is a resident of Athi River Township, marking the 19th county to report coronavirus cases.
Dr Rashid noted that five more people have been discharged from hospital, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 202.
"These are achievements that we must celebrate. It won't have been possible without the dedication and commitment of our healthcare workers, and we must remember them all the times," Dr Aman said.
He added that out of the 14 newly infected Kenyans, only one was in quarantine, while the rest were picked up by MoH surveillance teams. The patients include nine males and five females.
Dr Rashid warned Kenyans against using illegal routes to get into and out of Eastleigh and Old Town Mombasa, which are under a lockdown.
"We have repeatedly advised our citizens on the necessity of adhering and observing the measures and restrictions that have been imposed. We may sound very repetitive to you, but we shall keep doing this because it is this change of behaviors that will help us overcome this pandemic," Dr Aman noted.
