Heavy rainfall has left many roads in Nyandarua County impassable, but the county is taking steps to improve its infrastructure. As of May 8, 2020, the county had acquired road construction equipment worth approximately 500 million shillings.

The equipment, which includes nine tippers, four excavators, four graders, three rollers, and more, will be distributed across the county's five sub-counties next week. According to Governor Francis Kimemia, the new equipment will enable the county to execute various projects as planned, unlike in the past when it only owned one grader.

"We have purchased road construction machineries ranging from tippers, graders, excavators, rollers among others. Getting this new equipment means we have the capacity to execute various projects as planned unlike before when the county only owned one grader," said Governor Kimemia.

The county boss also noted that the purchasing of the equipment is complementing the work being done by the National government in tarmacking major roads in the county. He added that his administration had formed a cabinet emergency team to respond to roads and bridges breakage that may arise due to the heavy rains.

"I will make sure that roads will not be a campaign strategy for anyone seeking elective posts come 2022," Governor Kimemia said.

With the new equipment in place, the county's Roads and Public Works Executive, Ndung'u Wangenye, observed that it will now be possible to do the roads efficiently and cost-effectively. He added that a huge chunk of money dedicated to roads will now be released to undertake other developmental projects in the county.
