On May 8, 2020, Kenya Pipeline donated over 11,000 liters of sanitizers in Kuria East and Kuria West Constituencies in Migori County to combat the spread of COVID-19.

The donation, which included at least 5,000 liters of sanitizer for each constituency, was aimed at boosting the war against the virus in the region.

Speaking during the donation, Kuria East Member of Parliament Marwa Kitayama thanked the government for recognizing the need to keep Migori safe, particularly due to its proximity to Tanzania where the rate of infections remains high.

Kitayama emphasized the importance of evenly distributing the sanitizers to contain the spread of the virus and urged locals not to welcome relatives in their homes until the virus is contained.

He also challenged those claiming that the Jubilee-led government is doing nothing to control the spread of the virus to assess the measures fronted by the government in every Kenyan village.

Kitayama praised the work done by security teams and the Nyumba Kumi network to restrict movement of people in Kuria Sub-Counties, which he said has borne fruits.

Asha Okanga, Kuria East Public Health Officer, appealed to locals to report anyone they suspect to have traveled from far, noting that the virus will be contained if everybody adheres to the laid-down guidelines.

Speaking separately, Kuria West Member of Parliament Mathias Robi called for increased security patrols at the border and urged residents to strictly follow the Ministry of Health rules of social distancing, handwashing, sanitizing, and use of face masks.
