On Friday, General Samson Mwathethe received a 17-gun salute as he officially handed over the command of the military to his successor, General Robert Kibochi.
General Mwathethe, who has served for 42 years, arrived at the Department of Defence Headquarters where he handed over functions to General Kibochi.
Earlier in the week, General Mwathethe visited military personnel at the Kenya Navy and Kenya Airforce headquarters, where he was accorded guards of honour.
Top government officers, including Defence Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo, were present at the ceremony.
