On May 7, 2020, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru began distributing Ksh 45 million in bursary funds to approximately 25,000 students.
According to reports, 60% of the beneficiaries are secondary school students, while the remaining 40% attend universities, colleges, and vocational training institutions.
Each ward received Ksh 2.25 million, with school heads and chairmen of boards of management handed over the cheques.
As part of the relief aid program, Governor Waiguru also distributed dry foods, cooking oil, and masks to vulnerable residents in Kangai ward.
Waiguru emphasized the importance of unity and support for the vulnerable during the COVID-19 pandemic, calling on leaders to work together to mitigate the effects of the crisis.
Additionally, bodaboda riders were issued with helmets, reflectors, and masks as part of the Wezesha Kirinyaga empowerment program.
