Staying Home, Staying Informed ¶
With the COVID-19 pandemic still raging, many of us are finding ourselves with more time on our hands. For some, this means catching up on work or spending quality time with family. But for others, it's the perfect opportunity to pick up a book and get lost in a good story.
Recently, we spoke to three individuals, Donald Kipkorir, Ory Okolloh, and Muema Muindi, about their reading habits and how they are coping with the lockdown. From non-fiction to fantasy, these individuals shared with us their favorite books, genres, and why reading is essential for their mental health.
Donald Kipkorir
Donald Kipkorir, a lawyer and advocate, is currently reading Michelangelo: God's Architect by Prof. William E Wallace. He also recently finished reading Leonardo da Vinci by Walter Isaacson.
When asked about his favorite genre, Kipkorir revealed that he is drawn to non-fiction books about extraordinary people in their field or fields. He believes that reading about people with multi-tasking intelligence is fascinating and inspiring.
For Kipkorir, reading is not just a leisure activity, but also a way to stimulate his thought process and expand his mental realm. He believes that reading about people who have achieved great things despite the odds can be a powerful motivator.
Ory Okolloh
Ory Okolloh, a former managing director at Omidyar Network, is currently reading Capitalism, Alone: The Future of the System That Rules the World by Branko Milanovic.
Okolloh's bookshelf is filled with a diverse range of books, including An American Marriage by Tayari Jones, An Impeccable Spy: Richard Sorge, Stalin's Master Agent by Owen Matthews, and Courage to Be Disliked by Fumitake Koga and Ichiro Kishimi.
When asked about her favorite genre, Okolloh revealed that she enjoys reading non-fiction books about people's experiences. She believes that reading about others' lives can be a powerful way to learn and grow.
For Okolloh, reading is not just a leisure activity, but also a way to stay sharp and informed. She believes that reading about different topics and genres can help her stay up-to-date with the latest developments in various fields.
Muema Muindi
Muema Muindi, a director at Daykio Plantations, is currently reading Thirst of the Rain God: Secrets of the Maya by J. A Kalis.
Muindi recently finished re-reading The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown, and he is also looking forward to reading the sequel to The Thirteenth Guardian by K.M. Lewis.
When asked about his favorite genre, Muindi revealed that he enjoys reading fantasy books, but he also enjoys mystery and thriller novels. He believes that reading is a great way to escape reality and explore new worlds.
For Muindi, reading is a leisure activity that allows him to relax and unwind. He believes that reading can be a powerful way to reset and recharge, especially during times of uncertainty and stress.
