On May 8, 2020, a tragic incident unfolded in Athi River, Kenya, when gospel star Ruth Matete's husband, Beloved John Apewajoye, succumbed to injuries caused by severe burns in a gas accident at their home.

According to an autopsy report, Apewajoye had suffered over 60% burns, which led to sepsis and ultimately resulted in his death.

Despite the family's efforts to move forward with the burial, the Nigerian Embassy has refused to grant permission, citing that the government needs to be involved in the process.

Ruth and her family have already paid for four independent autopsies, all of which pointed to the same conclusion and ruled out foul play.

Adding to the bizarre situation is a letter written by Apewajoye's family to the Nigerian Embassy on April 29, stating that they have no objection to his burial in Kenya and requesting that the corpse be buried without further delay.

The letter, which was sent to the Nigerian Embassy in Kenya, reads: "With regards to the death of our son, John Apewajoye, we request that the corpse should be buried by his Kenyan wife without further delay for his soul to be at peace. All autopsy results duly accepted."
