As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to keep us home, one colleague, Carl, has been making a point to come to the office every day, much to the annoyance of his coworkers.

According to a conversation between Carl and his colleague, Josphat, Carl claimed that he finds it hard to concentrate when working from home. However, when questioned further, Carl spent 10 minutes talking about his personality and upbringing, leaving Josphat to wonder if Carl was genuinely struggling or just trying to justify his actions.

Things took a turn when Carl suggested that Josphat should consider reviewing his work-from-home schedule, implying that those who work from home are not serious about their work. Josphat retorted that he was working hard to prepare reports and keep his children safe, but Carl seemed not to be listening.

It wasn't until the HR manager, who was passing by Josphat's desk, overheard the conversation that the truth came to light. She revealed that Carl had been dying for a promotion for the past two years and believed that showing up every day would secure him the position.

It seems that Carl's actions were not about being a martyr, but rather about advancing his career. As the pandemic continues to keep us home, it's clear that some people are using it as an opportunity to further their own interests.
