Published on May 7, 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic has taken a significant toll on the tourism sector, with hotel chains feeling the effects.
Sarova Hotels, a prominent hospitality chain, has announced that it will cease managing two properties located within the Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary from July.
The two properties, Sarova Taita Hills Game Lodge and Sarova Salt Lick Game Lodge, have been under Sarova's management for 13 years.
This decision leaves Sarova with only seven properties under its portfolio, including the Stanley and Whitesands.
The suspension of operations at Sarova Taita Hills Game Lodge in March, following government-imposed travel restrictions, was a significant blow to the hotel's earnings.
"We would like to assure you that all contractual obligations and commitments made by Sarova Hotels in relation to these two lodges up to June 30 will be fully honoured, and we will ensure a seamless transition between ourselves and the owner of the two lodges," said Sarova Hotels Kenya Managing Director, Jimi Kariuki.
