On May 7, 2020, the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) urged landlords in Uasin Gishu to suspend rent collection for several months.

The move aims to help businesses stay afloat and bounce back after the pandemic.

Willy Kenei, chairman of the KNCCI Uasin Gishu Chapter, requested landlords, housing agents, and mall owners to suspend or reduce rent for the four months of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Many businesses in the county have been severely affected, with some closing down completely or operating below potential due to low sales and loss of income.

Mr. Kenei pleaded with business people to cooperate voluntarily, stating that it would go a long way in managing the effects of the pandemic.

As a result of the pandemic, the KNCCI had to postpone a planned business forum scheduled for April 23, adhering to the Covid-19 curbing guidelines that prohibit gatherings.
