On May 7, 2020, South Africa's parliament faced a second virtual disruption since the coronavirus outbreak, with hackers posting pornographic images during a Zoom meeting.
According to parliamentary spokesman Moloto Mothapo, the meeting was temporarily disrupted by hackers, but it continued afterwards on a different platform.
Speaker Thandi Modise adjourned the virtual meeting after pornographic images popped up a few minutes before the start of the session, and a male voice hurled sexist and racial insults at her.
Local publication News24 reported that house chairman Cedric Frolick was in discussions with MPs about getting a more secure platform.
This incident is not the first of its kind, as a meeting convened by Minister for Women, Youth and Persons with Disability Maite Nkoana-Mashabane was also bombarded with pornographic material last month.
