On May 7, 2020, the Kenyan Premier League Limited (KPL) wrote to the Confederation of African Football (Caf) protesting Football Kenya Federation's (FKF) decision to cancel the 2019/20 season.

According to a letter dated April 26, 2020, Caf's acting General Secretary Abdelmounaim Bah had asked member associations to report on the status of their national leagues and cups, including any strategies for completion or annulment.

However, on April 30, 2020, FKF president Nick Mwendwa announced on social media that the league would not resume and declared Gor Mahia champions, with Nairobi City Stars promoted to the top tier.

"Congratulations Gor Mahia! You are champions once again and you will represent Kenya on the champions league Next season. Lets do this!" Mwendwa tweeted.

Now, KPL has asked clubs to wait for their directive on the matter, while also taking the battle to Caf in a letter dated May 7, 2020, signed by CEO Jack Oguda.

"We find FKF's purported decision to cancel the season to be out of step with your circular dated April 26, 2020 addressed to your Member Association General Secretaries," the letter read in part.
