On May 7, 2020, the Kenyan government issued a stern warning to individuals attempting to evade the lockdown in Mombasa and Nairobi.
According to Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman, some people had managed to sneak out of the lockdown areas in Eastleigh and Mombasa Old Town to neighboring estates.
"We are aware that some people have sneaked out to neighboring estates," Aman said, "this is not good at all as it poses a risk of spreading the virus."
Similar cases were reported in Nairobi, where individuals had escaped from Eastleigh to areas such as South C and South B.
Aman urged people to respect government orders and appealed to those housing the lockdown evaders to come forward and report them.
As of May 7, 2020, Kenya had recorded 607 COVID-19 infections, with 29 deaths and 197 recoveries.
