UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin has been at the forefront of efforts to revive European football's top competition, which was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

On March 12, Liverpool's loss to Atletico Madrid at Anfield and Paris Saint-Germain's victory over Borussia Dortmund at the Parc des Princes were the final matches played in the competition.

However, UEFA and relevant club bosses have been working tirelessly to complete this year's Champions League, with a desire to finish the season as scheduled.

According to UEFA, the remaining four last 16, second leg matches - Bayern Munich vs Chelsea, Manchester City vs Real Madrid, Juventus vs Lyon, and Barcelona vs Napoli - will be played on the weekend of August 8.

Quarter-final matches will then take place the following midweek, with the possibility of single leg affairs at neutral venues.

The final is due to be played in Istanbul, with the Turkish FA confident that they will be in place to host the event as previously planned.

"God willing, we will complete our own leagues at the end of July,” Turkish Football Federation Nihat Ozdemir said. “We will hand over our cups on the pitch and then we will cap the season off by hosting the UEFA Champions League final in August.”
