On May 4, 2020, Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina's hopes of becoming the Chairman of the powerful County Public Accounts and Investment Committee (CPAIC) were dashed after ODM Party removed him from the committee.
Senator Ole Kina had been elected as the chairperson of the committee just four days prior, but his tenure was short-lived. ODM leader Raila Odinga had asked party members to vote for Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri, but Ole Kina mobilized four Jubilee legislators in the committee to vote for him, beating Ongeri by one vote.
However, ODM's Senate Minority Leader James Orengo was not pleased with the outcome and wrote to the Senate Speaker Ken Lusaka informing him that the party had removed Ole Kina from the committee. In a letter dated May 4, 2020, Orengo stated, 'In accordance with the Senate Standing Order 190, I hereby give notice of the discharge and removal of Senator Ledama Ole Kina from the County Public Accounts and Investment Committee and Senate Business Committee.'
Senator Ole Kina had been accused of working with Deputy President William Ruto's allies to execute a coup in the elections held on Monday. Ruto allies, led by Senate Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen, had been celebrating Ole Kina's win on social media.
