On May 4, 2020, a notice from Kwale Law Courts indicated that Principal Magistrate Joe Omido would deliver a ruling via video conferencing in the case of Joshua Waiganjo, former Rift Valley Provincial Police boss John M'Mbijiwe, and ex-Anti-Stock Theft Unit Commandant Michael Remi Ngugi.
Omido had handled the case while in Nakuru before being transferred to Kwale. The ruling would determine whether Waiganjo and M'Mbijiwe had a case to answer or not.
Waiganjo faced a case of impersonation, while M'Mbijiwe and Ngugi faced abuse of office charges. The case had sent shock waves in the National Police Service in 2012, with over 37 witnesses testifying during the hearing in Nakuru.
Senior police officers had testified how Waiganjo managed to weave his way through the police force with ease, accompanied by a team of senior police officers to Baragoi, Samburu County, where bandits had killed more than 40 police officers and police reservists.
