On May 7, 2020, a disturbing incident unfolded in Nakuru East, involving Joseph Munyiri, the former deputy mayor of Nakuru. According to reports, Munyiri's financial struggles have taken a toll on his family life, with some even describing him as 'berserk and violent.'

Munyiri's troubles began when he visited his wife's electronic shop in Menengai ward and sold a 32-inch TV set to a friend for a mere Sh2,000 without consulting his wife. When questioned about the transaction, Munyiri allegedly descended on his wife with blows and kicks, stripping her naked in the process.

Wangui was subsequently treated at the Nakuru Mediheal Hospital, and she has since spoken out about the frequent beatings she has endured at the hands of her husband. The incident has sparked concerns about the rising cases of domestic violence during the Coronavirus pandemic.
