On April 28, a former banker, Terance Korir, tragically lost his life in a mysterious fire in Buru Buru, Nairobi. The incident occurred when Korir's car caught fire outside his house at around 8:30am, while his family was inside.
According to investigators, ash samples collected from Korir's car will be sent to the Government Chemist to determine the cause of the fire. The samples were presented yesterday, and the investigation is ongoing.
Dr. Johansen Oduor, the Chief Government Pathologist, conducted a postmortem examination on Tuesday and ruled out the possibility of Korir's body being brought into the car and set ablaze elsewhere. The examination revealed that Korir's respiratory tract was full of soot, indicating that he was still breathing as the fire burnt him.
Dr. Oduor also concluded that Korir had starved for some time before he died, based on the examination of his intestines. Furthermore, more soot was found in his lungs, suggesting that he inhaled a significant amount of soot while in the car.
Dr. Oduor stated, "He inhaled a lot of soot, an indication that he took a lot of time in the car before he died... The summary is that this is a person who died in a car fire. The circumstances and what caused the fire is what we cannot tell."
